Back the AI Built for the People a Human Advisor Forgot

A solo Scottish founder. Capital-efficient by design. Building AI for the businesses big tech ignores — so the next generation grows up in a world without fear.

I'm Stephen. I'm building SWARM AI Systems — an AI operating system for the small businesses big tech doesn't bother to serve.

No VC. No team. One founder, a laptop, and a swarm of AI agents I taught to do the work of a 20-person startup.

The products are live. The tech works. There's an AI receptionist that answers calls 24/7, a business operating system, and an AI Audit that finds where a business is leaking revenue — in ten minutes.

This page exists because every pound you put in goes straight into the build. No salary, no agencies, no vanity spend. Capital-efficient by design.

Why This Matters

There's a gap between people who can afford a £200-an-hour business advisor and people who can't. The florist. The joiner. The single mum running a cleaning round on her phone. The personal trainer working out of a leased gym. They're drowning in admin and losing customers because they can't reply fast enough.

Big tech AI is built for big companies. SWARM is built for the person who's still answering their own phone.

The deeper mission is simpler: I want my daughter Robyn to grow up in a world without fear — without the fear of poverty, of being shut out, of being on the wrong side of a technology divide. Every backer here is a small vote for that world.

Where Every Pound Goes

Capital-efficient by design. No salary, no agencies, no vanity spend. The breakdown:

~45%
AI compute & hosting OpenAI, Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Tavus, Simli, Supabase, Vercel — the engines that make the swarm run.
~25%
Build tools & APIs Twilio, Stripe, domains, email infra, security audits — the plumbing customers never see.
~20%
Mission delivery Reaching the businesses who need this most — outreach, content, demos, AI Audits delivered free at launch.
~10%
Reserves A small buffer so a bad month doesn't break the build. Capital-efficient runway.

Why I'm Building This

I left a previous career carrying a panic disorder and a head full of ideas I couldn't afford to test. I knew firsthand what it felt like to need a £200-an-hour advisor and not be able to phone one.

So I taught myself to build. Then I taught AI to build alongside me. SWARM is what one person can do when AI does the work of twenty.

The reason I'm asking for backers instead of taking VC: once you take VC the mission becomes "5x return for the fund." I want the mission to stay "close the gap between the people who can afford a human advisor and the people who can't" — because that gap is personal.

Every pound you put in keeps SWARM independent. Independent means the mission doesn't get sold.

What's Live So Far

Honest Answers

Where does the money actually go?

Straight into the build. Roughly 45% AI compute and hosting (OpenAI, Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Tavus, Simli, Supabase, Vercel), 25% build tools and APIs (Twilio, Stripe, domains, email, security), 20% mission delivery (reaching the small businesses who need this most), 10% reserves so one bad month doesn't break the build.

No salary. No agencies. No vanity spend. I'll publish a one-line monthly update showing exactly what your money paid for.

How is this different from a normal startup?

A normal startup raises from VCs and the mission becomes "5x return for the fund." That changes the product. You stop building for the joiner with one phone and start building for whoever can pay enterprise prices.

Backers keep SWARM independent. Independent means the mission doesn't get sold.

Who are you?

Stephen Ward. Solo founder. Glasgow. SWARM Holdings Ltd, registered in Scotland (SC884785). Spent years in trades and small business before teaching myself to build. I know what it feels like to need an advisor you can't afford. That's why this exists.

Why won't VCs fund this?

They might. I haven't asked them. The maths of VC funding only works at scale, and at scale you have to charge prices the businesses I'm building for can't pay. The model has to stay capital-efficient or the mission warps.

If a values-aligned investor wants in on terms that don't compromise the mission, the door's not closed. Email stephen@swarmaisystems.com.

What do I get for £5 vs £250?

£5: Monthly backer email update. You're keeping the AI running for another hour.

£25: Update + sponsor mention. You're covering a full day of compute.

£99: Update + backer wall + free AI Audit voucher redeemable when SWARM goes public (£99 value).

£250: Lifetime free SWARMZ AI Receptionist + name on the founders' wall + first access to every product I ship.

What happens if I want a refund?

You email stephen@swarmaisystems.com and I refund you. No questions, no forms, no friction. The whole point is to back something you believe in — if you stop believing, the money goes back. The only thing I ask is honest feedback on what changed.

Is SWARM AI Systems a real registered company?

Yes. SWARM Holdings Ltd, company number SC884785, registered in Scotland. Verifiable on Companies House.

How do I know the products actually work?

Three things you can check yourself before backing: 1) book the live £99 AI Audit — real product, real Stripe checkout, you'd get a real audit. 2) talk to SWARMZY, the voice avatar that runs alongside me. 3) read the Founding Compact, the public ethical contract between me and the AI that builds with me.

Will I get equity?

Not at backer tiers. These are donations / pre-orders — the money funds the build, you get the perks listed.

For backers at £500+ contemplating an angel position, SEIS-eligible terms are available. Email stephen@swarmaisystems.com and I'll send the cap table and SEIS Advance Assurance status.

What if SWARM fails?

Honest answer: if SWARM closes its doors, the perks I can't deliver get refunded from the reserves line in the budget (the 10% buffer). The open-source pieces of the codebase will be released so the community can keep what's useful. Nothing gets thrown away.

The deeper bet you're making isn't on the company surviving. It's on the idea — that one Scottish lad with a laptop and a swarm of AI agents can build something useful for the people big tech ignores. Even if SWARM doesn't last, the proof that it can be done does.
